Event Recap: Garage 42 Goes Karting

Sunday, March 23rd, 2025

At Garage 42, our exclusive member events are a cornerstone of the community we’ve built around a shared passion for automotive excellence. This page highlights some of our most memorable gatherings, including Cars and Coffee mornings, spirited drive events with premium dealer partners, private track days, karting events, educational sessions, curated group rallies through scenic New England, and a multitude of social events. Take a look back at the moments that define our culture and elevate membership beyond just storage.

As we we’re closing out February and looking forward towards the Spring, “track season” was top of mind. After a long winter of car covers and simulator laps, we were all itching to pull our cars off the lifts and haul the trailers down to Thompson Speedway for a proper rip. Of course, New England weather just wasn’t there yet. Lucky for us, our top brass had just the solution: a member event at the best karting track in the area.

The event was held at R1 in Lincoln, Rhode Island, on the last Sunday in March. The sub-30-degree weather upon arrival confirmed that tracking indoors was the correct decision and the 20 guests quickly warmed up with some coffee, pastries, and conversation. In the lounge area, complete with pool tables.

Twenty minutes on it was time to suit up and hit the track. Most of us looked

on with envy as Bob put on his own helmet, and the rest of us donned rental gear. *Mental note to bring my own gear next time.*

Our group was split into two running groups of 10 and eagerly waited to see how fast these electric karts were. We all found out pretty quickly that they were plenty fast for a bit of fun. It seemed like 50% of us spun out in the first session, and most overtakes turned rapidly into crashes. We came in from the first 8 laps, and were pleasantly surprised to hear that they would be turning up our speed for the next session as well!

Two sessions on we had unlocked the kart’s fastest setting (something we’re not quite sure we deserved after our brutal 6-kart pileup just over a blind crest) and were battling for the quickest lap of the day. Following the third session, we were expecting to see our lap times up on the board just where they had been after the first two, but the track workers informed us that our final times would be held until after the podium ceremony.

Frankly, a podium ceremony before noon on a Sunday for a group with an average age above 25 seemed like a bit much, but I can speak for myself in saying that it succeeded in building anticipation.

In the end, Mark took third, Alberto second, and, all too expectedly, David took first by over a second. Yes, the CEO of Garage 42, the man who planted the seed for the karting event, wiped the floor with all of his valued members, along with their family and friends. You’d think he would have the forethought to let up on the gas a little… At least next time we’ll have a reason to pull him out of the running and give the rest of us a fighting chance!

Thank You!

Thank you so much to all the members, family, and friends that drove out to Rhode Island to spend the morning with us! We hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did. I speak for the entire Garage 42 team when I say we truly enjoy spending time with you at these events and look forward to the next one! (This time the track will be full scale)
